Free Play and Finding Games
You don't have to stick to the official servers. Host your own session or find people to play with.
We run official game servers, but they are only part of what’s available. You can play anything you have installed.
Beyond the official servers
If a game supports LAN or local multiplayer, go ahead and host your own session. No permission needed - your machine hosts, others join.
Common examples:
- LAN lobby: Many games (Factorio, Terraria, Minecraft) let you open your world to the local network.
- Local co-op: Bring a controller and play split-screen or shared-screen with someone next to you.
- Open-source classics: Minetest, Xonotic, OpenArena - grab the installer from our file server and go.
Finding people to play with
Not everyone arrives with a full squad. If you’re looking for company:
- Discord
#general: Post what you want to play and how many people you need. Plenty of people check it. - Ask around in person. The person next to you might be waiting for the same game.
- Watch the projector and announcements. Impromptu sessions get advertised there.
Board games and non-digital activities
The LAN is not screens only. If you want a break or a change of pace:
- The chill zone usually has board games and card games available.
- Feel free to bring your own - put it on a table and someone will sit down to play.
Etiquette
- If you’re hosting, let nearby players know they can join.
- Don’t hog bandwidth with a 20-player Minecraft server - keep the traffic reasonable.
- If you’re shutting down a session, give the others a heads-up first.
- Opt out anytime. It is fine to leave a game mid-session or sit out a round. Nobody tracks attendance.
- If you need a break from screens, the chill zone is there for that.
