Surviving the Weekend

How to not feel terrible on Monday morning.

LAN parties are endurance events. Pace yourself.

The 3-2-1 Rule

Every 24 hours, you need:

  • 3 hours of sleep (minimum).
  • 2 solid meals (not just chips).
  • 1 shower (mandatory).

Food & drinks

  • There is no full catering. Plan your own meals.
  • If there’s interest, we can pool money and order food together at the venue.
  • We’ll have cold beer and soft drinks available at cost, plus limited snacks.

Hydration

  • Drink water. Energy drinks and soda dehydrate you.
  • Keep a refillable water bottle at your desk.
  • Headache? You’re probably dehydrated. Drink water.

Sleep

  • Don’t pull an all-nighter on night one. You will crash on Saturday afternoon and miss the best tournaments.
  • Sleeping areas are quiet zones. Respect that.
  • Bring earplugs and a sleep mask.

Where to sleep

  • Sleep wherever you can find a suitable spot, but keep in mind the venue won’t be silent.
  • If you need real quiet, the city is close enough that you can slip away for a quick power nap.

Movement

  • Get up every hour.
  • Stretch your wrists, back, and neck.
  • Go outside for fresh air at least twice a day. The “LAN cough” is real, and fresh air helps prevent it.
