Version Mismatch
How to check game version, where to find local patch mirrors.
“Server runs a different version of the game.” Familiar?
First, check Known Issues.
Why does this happen?
We usually run the latest version on the LAN. If you didn’t update at home, or your Steam is in Offline Mode, you are behind.
How to check your version?
Most games display the version number in the corner of the main menu.
Counter-Strike 2: Bottom-left corner of the main menu.
Minecraft (Java): Bottom-left of the title screen.
League of Legends: Bottom-right of the login screen, or Settings > About.
Call of Duty: Usually top-right of the main menu.
Compare with others. Ask your neighbor: “What version do you have?”
Check the server browser. If all servers are greyed out or red, the problem is on your end.
How to update on LAN?
Steam:
- Right-click game > Properties > Updates.
- Set to “Always keep this game updated”.
- Restart Steam.
Battle.net:
- Click Options (gear) next to Play.
- Select Check for Updates.
Minecraft:
- In the launcher, check the version dropdown (left of Play).
- Make sure Latest Release is selected, not a snapshot or old version.
General tips:
- Go Online: Make sure Steam/Launcher is in Online Mode.
- Restart: Many launchers only check for updates on startup.
- Local Cache: We have a local cache server. Downloads should be fast (10-50 MB/s). If it’s slow, check your DNS settings (set to Automatic / DHCP).
Old Games and Patches
If we play a game not on Steam (e.g., Minetest, Xonotic, OpenArena):
- Check Discord. The link to the required patch will be in
#announcementsor the game’s channel. - Local File Server. Check files.ctrl-alt-gg.hu, we usually keep “LAN Pack” bundles there.
- Ask for help. If you can’t find it, ask on Discord. Someone definitely has it on a flash drive.
Still stuck?
- Check Known Issues first – if it’s listed, we already know.
- Post in
#supporton Discord with this info:- Seat number (e.g. Row 4, Seat 12)
- What’s broken, one sentence
- What you already tried
- Screenshot or error message
- If no reply in 15 minutes, come to the organizer desk.
