Surviving the Weekend

How to not feel terrible on Monday morning.

LAN parties are endurance events. Pace yourself.

The 3-2-1 Rule

Every 24 hours, you need:

  • 3 hours of sleep (minimum).
  • 2 solid meals (not just chips).
  • 1 shower (mandatory).

Food & drinks

  • There is no full catering. Plan your own meals.
  • If there’s interest, we can pool money and order food together at the venue.
  • We’ll have cold beer and soft drinks available at cost, plus limited snacks.

Hydration

  • Drink water. Energy drinks and soda dehydrate you.
  • Keep a refillable water bottle at your desk.
  • Headache? You’re probably dehydrated. Drink water.

Sleep

  • Don’t pull an all-nighter on night one. You will crash on Saturday afternoon and miss the best tournaments.
  • Sleeping areas are quiet zones. Respect that.
  • Bring earplugs and a sleep mask.

Where to sleep

  • Sleep wherever you can find a suitable spot, but keep in mind the venue won’t be silent.
  • If you need real quiet, the city is close enough that you can slip away for a quick power nap.

Movement & Stretching (2 minutes)

Do this after every second match:

  1. Wrists: Extend your arm and gently pull your fingers back. Hold for 10 seconds. Repeat downwards.
  2. Neck: Tilt your head sideways towards your shoulder. Don’t force it.
  3. Back: Stand up, put your hands on your hips, and lean back.
  4. Legs: Walk to the water tap.

Hydration Points: You can find drinking water in the restrooms and the kitchen area. Refill your bottle.

Eye Strain

Staring at a monitor for hours dries out your eyes.

  • 20-20-20 Rule: Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet (6 meters) away for 20 seconds.
  • Brightness: Adjust your monitor brightness to match the room. Don’t stare into a floodlight in the dark.
  • Night Mode: If you play past midnight, turn on a blue light filter (Windows Night Light / f.lux).

Permission to Step Away

  • It is okay to take a break. Nobody will judge you for stepping outside, napping, or skipping a round.
  • If you feel unwell: If you feel dizzy, nauseous, or just off, stop playing. Drink water, get fresh air, or lie down.
  • If it doesn’t get better: Talk to staff at the Organizer Desk. We will help.
